What transferable points are, and why they are valued higher
A transferable point is a bank's own currency that can be moved into several airline and hotel programs. Published valuations put the six here at 1.82¢ a point on average, against 1.12¢ for the nine that are locked to a single program. The difference is the choice: you can wait to decide where a point goes until you know what it will buy there.

- Only count the higher value if you will transfer — otherwise count a cent a point.
- Check the card allows transfers. Some banks restrict them to their premium cards.
- Pool points in one bank's currency so a redemption is not stranded across several.
- Transfer only when you have a booking; a transfer usually cannot be undone.

What the higher value depends on
Transferring. The valuation assumes the points go to a partner and buy a flight or a room at a good rate. Cashed out for a statement credit, most are worth far less — often about a cent.
The right card. Some banks only allow transfers from their premium cards; the same currency earned on a no-fee card may be cash-out only until you also hold one.
Partners that change. Which programs a bank transfers to, and at what ratio, changes over time. This page lists none of them: that data is not in Cardful's catalogue, and a list typed from memory would be wrong the first time a bank changed one. Check the bank's own transfer page.
